Don’t Miss Independence Eve 2017 on Monday, July 3!

Make your plans to attend this free, patriotic community celebration featuring a concert, light show, and fireworks finale on Monday, July 3, in Downtown Denver’s Civic Center Park beginning at 8 p.m. The concert will feature Taylor Rae, Soul X, and the 101st Army Band of the Colorado National Guard.
Independence Eve is one of many events produced by the Civic Center Conservancy. The Denver Post Community is proud to support the great work of the Civic Center Conservancy.

Ride The Rockies 2017 – Full of Majestic Views

The 32nd Annual Bike Tour Included 447 Miles and Approximately 32,337′ Elevation Gain 
 
The Denver Post Ride The Rockies Bicycle Tour held June 10 – 17, 2017, was another spectacular adventure for the 2,000 cyclists traveling from 49 states and 9 countries to partake in this annual ride benefiting The Denver Post Community Foundation. This year’s route offered breathtaking views from some of the most iconic locations on Colorado’s map including Wolf Creek Pass; Molas and Red Mountain Pass – also known as the Million Dollar Highway; Cerro Summit, and Blue Mesa Reservoir to name a few. A special thank you for the great entertainment and the warm welcome given to Ride The Rockies goes out to our seven host communities: Alamosa,Pagosa SpringsDurangoRidgwayMontroseGunnison, and Salida! In each of these communities, Ride The Rockies and The Denver Post Community Foundation were proud to present a $5,000 grant to a deserving nonprofit organization working to improve and enrich the lives of others. One great way to get a feel for what it’s like to “Ride The Rockies” is to read first hand accounts from the Ride The Rockies guest bloggers; the Peak Pedalers! These cyclists were part of an online contest and were voted in by their peers to tell the story of the week. You can read their blog posts here.
In addition to the seven-day Tour, more than 40 cyclists took part in the Ride The Rockies Prologue Experience, a 2-night VIP weekend event in Taos, New Mexico. This event welcomed elite cyclists as part of “Pedal with the Pros” including Denise Mueller, the world’s fastest female cyclist; Katie Compton, 13-time USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships winner (2014-2017); John Howard, 2-Time Red Zinger Bicycle Classic Winner and 4-Time US National Road Cycling champion; and Ron Kiefel, 7-Time Tour de France Competitor and Olympic Bronze Medalist. The Denver Post Underground Music Showcase – July 27-30

The 2017 Denver Post Underground Music Showcase presented by Breckenridge Brewery is right around the corner! The lineup includes several favorites including Benjamin Booker; Red Fang; and Esme Patterson and is sure to please festival goers July 27 – 30. During these four days in July, the historic Baker Neighborhood will be Colorado’s epicenter of independent music. Hundreds of performances in a variety of venues will showcase an immense amount of musical talent in the Rocky Mountain region.

The UMS music festival is a signature event of The Denver Post Community Foundation and supports the local music community by being the premier showcase, and the local business community by bringing thousands of music lovers to the Baker neighborhood businesses. Each year, a grant is presented to support a local charity supporting the young lives in our community through music and art. The UMS and The Denver Post Community Foundation are proud to support the amazing work of Youth on Record as the charitable partner again in 2017.

From rock, to pop, to folk, to hip hop, the UMS showcases something for everyone. This festival is for all ages and highlights a unique celebration of creativity and passion for the art of music!

Faith Baca, the 77th Colorado State Spelling Bee Champion to Compete at the Scripps National Spelling Bee

Join us as we cheer on Faith Baca, speller #204, as she represents Denver in the 90th Scripps National Spelling Bee May 30 – June 1 near Washington, D.C. Faith, an 8th grader from Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning in Denver, earned her national spot after winning The Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee in 21 rounds in March 2017. The Scripps National Bee – Rounds 5 and 6 will air live on ESPN2 from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (MST) and Round 7 will air live on ESPN starting at 6:30 p.m. (MST)
