Get ready for another year of spectacular talent at the Botanic Gardens Summer Concert Series presented by UMB Bank. The stellar lineup kicks off with TajMo: The Taj Mahal and Keb’ Mo Band and continues with a variety of musical offerings including
Mary Chapin Carpenter w/ special guest Sarah Jarosz, Buddy Guy, Randy Newman, and Jose Gonzalez to name a few. The concerts at the UMB Bank Amphitheater at York Street and Denver Botanic Gardens Chatfield Farms offer the unrivaled ambiance of thousands of blooming plants and the crystal clear music of some of the world’s most sought after artists. The Denver Post Pedal The Plains Route is Officially Announced

On Monday, April 17, the 2017 Denver Post Pedal The Plains Bicycle Tour route was announced at the State Capitol by Governor Hickenlooper and Tour Director, Renee Wheelock. This year’s ride will take place September 15-17 and travel through Kersey, Keenesburg, and Brush, Colorado. 
This one-of-a-kind annual cycling event began in 2012 and is produced in partnership with the Governor’s Office. It celebrates the agricultural roots and frontier heritage of Colorado’s Eastern Plains. Described by the Governor as “a ride for the rest of us,” Pedal The Plains seeks to engage riders of all abilities, from seasoned cyclists to first-time riders, in an educational and recreational experience.  The 2017 Tour will highlight three unique and charming communities: Kersey: A Great Place to Grow a Family;  Keenesburg: the Home of 500 Happy People and a Few Soreheads; and Brush! Homegrown Happiness!

Colorado Business Committee For The Arts (CBCA) Announce 2017 Award Winners

On Wednesday, March 15, CBCA announced the winners of the 2017 Business for the Arts Awards at the 30th Annual statewide luncheon. This signature event honored companies and individuals for their exemplary partnerships with the arts to a sold-out crowd of 700 arts, business and civic leaders at the Seawell Ballroom. Guests enjoyed live entertainment before and during the program, including an elementary school mariachi band, excerpts from a Broadway show and diverse Indian dances with live percussion.

The 9th Annual Charity Preview Party – April 4

Mark your calendar to attend one of Denver’s premier fundraising events each year! The 9th Annual Charity Preview Party “Car-nivale” presented by UMB Bank, is Tuesday, April 4, 2017 from 7-10 pm at the Colorado Convention Center. Guests will have private access to the entire Denver Auto Show floor prior to its opening to the public as well as enjoy a lavish buffet, theme-inspired cocktails, numerous gaming stations all while enjoying the captivating beat of calypso music.
The Denver Post Community Foundation is honored to be a beneficiary along with National Jewish Health and Clear the Air Foundation.

Congratulations to Faith Baca, 2017 Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee Champion

On Saturday, March 11, more than 270 top student spellers from across the state came to University of Denver’s Sturm Hall to compete in The 77th Annual Denver Post Colorado State Spelling Bee competition. Students were vying for the championship title and an all-expenses paid trip to the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington D.C.
After the morning vocabulary and spelling tests were graded, the competition was narrowed down to the top 33 finalists for the afternoon oral rounds. Faith Baca, an eighth-grader from Rocky Mountain Expeditionary School of Learning in Denver, won the competition after spelling rhabdoid (meaning shaped like a rod) correctly in the 21st round. Luke Henson from Christian Home Educators of CO in Denver took 2nd place and Edwin Wojcik from DSST-Conservatory Green in Denver took 3rd place. To see the 33 finalists and their results, click here.

2017 Employee Volunteer Projects Announced!

Volunteerism is a part of The Denver Post’s culture, because we believe when we volunteer our time, money, or talents, we help make our world a better, happier place where people work together and improve life for others. Giving back is an enriching experience for all involved and our employees take pride in donating their personal time for a wide range of projects each year. The Denver Post is proud to offer its employee volunteer program ACTS, Assisting the Community Through Service, as a year-round opportunity to make a difference.
In 2017, our employees, with their family and friends, will help make a difference atMile High Early Learning (Northeast) through AMP The Cause’s Community Dayin May, for the Denver Public Library Friends Foundation in June, setting up the annual Used Book Sale, for Denver Public Schools Foundation in July, by collecting school supplies for the MEED program which works with students facing homelessness, at Food Bank of the Rockies in November, by reclaiming and packaging food for low-income families, and with Basket of Joy in December, by packing and delivering Baskets of Joy to help nominated seniors in Metro Denver.

Thank you! More Than $2,300,000 To Be Distributed Through Season To Share!

Thanks to the generous support of our community, more than $2,300,000 will be distributed this year through The Denver Post Season To Share, a McCormick Foundation Fund. 
More than $1,533,600 was raised thanks the the generosity of over 4,500 donors. The McCormick Foundation matched all gifts at 50% for an additional $766,800. With The Denver Post and the McCormick Foundation paying all expenses, 100% of every donation, plus the match, will go directly to local charities working to move people out of poverty by providing meals for those who are hungry, housing for those who are homeless, healthcare for uninsured/underinsured patients, and education programs for disadvantaged children.
We would like to acknowledge and thank MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation and Denver Active 20/30 Children’s Foundation for their continued support of Season To Share. Grantees will be announced in The Denver Post in mid-July.

Don’t miss this nine-day spectacular event! Save the date for the 2017 Colorado Garden & Home Show, February 4 – 12 at the Colorado Convention Center. Discover the Rocky Mountain region’s largest, oldest, and most prestigious garden and home show while making a difference in the community.
Each year money raised from the Show supports horticultural and related activities throughout Colorado. The Colorado Garden Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to furthering the horticultural industry, awards grants to organizations and scholarships to individuals across Colorado. In the past 58 years, these grants have totaled over $7.2 million. The Grant program funds tree and plant material purchases, school landscape improvements, community gardens, and educational and research programs with organizations throughout Colorado.

The 2016/17 Denver Post Season To Share Holiday Campaign is nearing the end, but there’s still time to contribute and make a difference in our community! Each donation given will be matched at 50% by the McCormick Foundation. 
Through The Denver Post Season To Share, a McCormick Foundation Fund, grants are made to local nonprofit organizations making a difference for low-income children, adults and families. Thanks to the generosity of donors and the 50% match from the McCormick Foundation, those less fortunate in our communities have a chance to improve their lives. With all expenses paid, 100% of donations, plus the match, is granted across Metro Denver.

Basket Of Joy Delivered to More Than 5,280 Metro Denver Seniors

On Saturday, December 10, 2016 more than 2,000 volunteers made the day a little brighter for seniors in our community through the heartwarming Basket of Joy event.
Co-founded in the early 80s by former Denver Post columnist Woody Page, Basket of Joy celebrated its 29th anniversary in 2016. Many volunteers helped pack the 5,280 baskets with fresh fruit, candy, and cards decorated by school aged children, while others delivered them to the homes of the nominated seniors across Metro Denver. We are so grateful to work alongside these partners to make this event possible: Volunteers of America, Safeway, Denver Mattress Co., and InnovAge. Pictured: Robin Doerr, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for InnovAge, delivers a Basket of Joy to 96 year old Marcella Howard.
